Black and white monogram wedding cookies

The request was simple; 

white cookie with black monogrammed letter W.

The only problem with a simple design like this, is that it better be spot on.  No smoke and mirrors to hide mistakes!

Fortunately, the wedding invitation had a W for me to copy.

That was quite handy!

These cookies were for my cousin Beth's wedding. 

It was a lovely day from start to finish - the weather was sunny, the flowers stunning (she incorporated vintage brooches in the flowers and on the cake!), food was excellent, DJ played good music, the newly weds glowed with happiness, and a good time was had by all.

Watermelon and white wedding cookies

Here is how the story goes.

I was making cookies to send to my cousin's daughter's wedding reception back in the midwest. 

I really stress over mailing cookies when there is a deadline.  

Deadline as in - 

GET THEM THERE IN TIME FOR THE RECEPTION.

The only problem was,

my hands gave out.  Totally and completely.  l took the cookies that I had finished to the post office, mailed them off, and forgot to even get a quick photograph.  I figured that some is better than none, right?  So, what are the cookies in these photos?

After a day of rest it was round two.  

Different designs with the same color scheme of watermelon and white.  I managed to get pictures of these before another mad dash to the post office.  

Box number one has arrived and hopefully box number two will be in time as well.  

And then I will be able to sleep at night.

Here is a quick look at the cookies I have made for my son's wedding this weekend.

Genevieve's bridal shower goodies

This coming weekend is going to be a big one.  I am part of the woman posse going to New York City for Genevieve's wedding dress fitting on Saturday.  Afterward we are heading to lovely New Paltz, NY for her shower which is on Sunday.  My contribution to this event is, of course, cookies.  

I began by making sugar cookies in blue with lace detailing.

Next came chocolate sugar cookies.

I made a whipped frosting flavored with Kahlua.

O.M.G.

Let's just say that chocolate and Kahlua are a match made in heaven.  

Kind of like Drew and Genevieve.

On to white chocolate cameos and rose meringues.  I don't make meringues very often, and I have to ask myself why?  They are so good and so easy to make.

Here is something I haven't done before - painting with food coloring gel onto sugar cookies.  I only did a few because I wasn't sure if I would like them.

I like them.  I also did a few "quilted" cookies.

For the shower favors, I made a brown sugar shortbread.  I cut out three sizes of circles and stacked them into tiny wedding cakes.

I topped each one with a gum paste rose.   These will be individually bagged and tied with a soft blue ribbon.

I just love the softly romantic color scheme.  

The only tricky thing about this group of confections, is that I had to make them all in advance and mail them to New Paltz.  We are taking Amtrak from Philly to NYC, and I couldn't figure out how to bring them along without it being a major pain in the neck/disaster.  Two big boxes were mailed on Tuesday that will hopefully have no breakage, still be fresh, and 

GET THERE IN TIME.

Kinda sweating bullets over that one.

I have all of my fingers crossed!

I am also making macarons that ARE coming with me on the train.  They will be a soft blue with a vanilla bean Italian meringue buttercream filling.  

I am looking forward to a very SWEET weekend!

Wedding cookies again

Here I go again.  It must seem to all of you that I have become obsessed with wedding cookies lately.  Guilty as charged.

The New York City shopping trip over the weekend did indeed result in Genevieve saying "yes to the dress". She purchased it at a really fantastic bridal store called The Bridal Garden.  It is a non-profit salon featuring designer and couture gowns donated by stores and designers with the profits going to children's education  in New York City.  Click here to find out more about this really incredible charity.  Now this is a wedding concept I can get behind.  Genevieve got a stunning Vera Wang at a very deep discount and and the money goes to a wonderful cause.  I'd describe the dress and/or show pictures, but it is a deep dark secret to be kept from her inquisitive fiance.  Sorry Drew, my lips are sealed. Hee, hee, hee.

 The cookies above are my take on wedding bouquets.  Using a sea shell cutter for the top and a golf club cutter for the bottom, I came up with the shape (I do think that a tree cookie cutter would do an admirable job, however).  Have to say, I love the three dimensional look that the flowers give to the cookie.  I had been on a royal icing flower kick last week making roses in yellow, white, pink, and orange.  My favorite little accent flower is kind of like a little pansy with a green dragee center - cute, cute, cute.

Continuing with my royal icing rose frenzy, I made these tiffany blue hearts with scroll work and a white roses.    I would love these in any number of color combos, but what I am thinking of now is a fall theme.  Couldn't you picture these in a brown icing with burnt orange embellishments?  I am thinking about fall today because we in the midst of a despicable heat wave and I am hiding out in the air conditioning pretending it didn't make me sweat going out to get the mail. 

How about some cookies for a destination wedding?  Inspired by a tropical sunset, I think these would be a knock out favor for a beach wedding.  Palm trees, hammock, sunset, umbrella drink in hand...aaaaaah.  The next time though, I will make them with no pink, more red and more orange like these.  I thought more pink would be pretty.  It wasn't.

Wedding cookies

Is in the air.  I have been working on ideas for wedding cookies this week.  My son Drew and his beautiful fiance Genevieve are getting married next May, and I am so happy for them.  First and foremost, we are welcoming Genevieve into our family.  She is everything I could wish for in a wife for my son - intelligent, thoughtful, and loving.  Isabelle and I are thrilled to have another member for the girl team.

 And now for a guilty confession - Izzie and I are wedding show junkies.  Say Yes to the Dress, My Fair Wedding, Amazing Wedding Cakes, and (I can't believe I'm going to say this) occasionally Bridezillas.  We laugh and eat popcorn.  Don't judge. 

Of course, we can't wait to see what Genevieve picks for a wedding dress.  Will it be a one shoulder mermaid?

A classic ballgown?

Would she go for a ruffly skirt?

Or something couture?

And if this wedding excitement isn't enough, I am making cookies for my friend Nancy.  Her son is getting married next weekend and we are doing cookies for the rehersal dinner.  Little wedding cakes would be cute.

This next idea has been done a million times, but it is fun.  The bride and groom cookies, using a gift package cookie cutter for the groom and a heart cutter for the bride.

I also like the idea of monograms.  Michael and Lindsay's wedding colors are tangerine and purple so I did some with those colors.

Then I tried it adding white as a third color.

I know what are my favorites are.  Which would you choose?
