Camouflage cookie video tutorial

Time to send another care package to my soldier, so I thought I would demonstrate how I make camo on a cookie.

You start by making three colors of icing -

tan, a grey/taupe, and army green.

To make the tan I used two parts Wilton ivory to .25 part brown.

Gray/taupe I used equal parts yellow and violet with a very small touch of black.

For the army green I used two parts yellow to one part violet and a small touch of black.

It is perfectly OK to experiment here - start with small amounts of color and remember you can always darken the icing with a touch of black or lighten it with white food coloring.

As you will see on the video, I try to keep the shapes straight because real camo has an almost pixelated appearance.

I also want to share with you a fantastic way to support our military. It is called Cup of Joe, and $2 will send a cup of coffee and a personal note to our soldiers deployed in dangerous areas where stress is high and amenities are low. I think this in an incredible way to say thank you to these brave men and women who do so much for us.

Cookie love for a military family

There is only one box of cookies that I am mailing out this Christmas.

They are going to a special family that I have had on my heart and in my prayers since they lost their son on September 1 of this year.

This hit me close to home.

I can only imagine the devastation felt, and how difficult the holidays must seem to all of the parents, spouses, children, and friends who are trying to make their way through loss at this time of year.

You can better believe that I am counting my blessings.

There are a lot of terrible things that happen here at home and around the world, and I sure wish this enchanted oven had a really big magic wand to make it all better. In a small gesture of support, I made some cookies that I infused with lots of love and prayers.

I am trying to take Mother Teresa's advice:

"Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love".

A very happy army homecoming

It has been a long year since we said goodbye to our soldier.

Saturday night at Dulles International Airport was the scene of a

VERY, VERY HAPPY and emotional homecoming.

I got my Christmas present early this year!

All my love to the brave men and women who are deployed over Christmas, and to their families who are missing them.

And all my love and PRAYERS to the parents whose children have been lost to war or the senseless violence of last Friday.

I think we are all holding our kids extra tight this week.

Cookies for the team

For some special men who are very far from home.

I want to say

And most especially to my son,

You are all true American

I know that I am taking a chance that these will be a little on the stale side when they arrive at their final destination, but I had to give it a try anyway. They are being bagged and wrapped VERRRRRRY carefully! My last two boxes had my son's all time favorite food - Chex party mix (with extra seasoning!), along with suggestions from my blog buddy Janet - From Captain's Daughter to Army Mom, She gave me the best most comprehensive list of things to send in a military care package as well as words of encouragement from a fellow army mom. Not an easy gig my friends.

Oh, and a special cookie for the newest addition to the team.

I thought Sam should have one of his own.

Hope these arrive in one piece and not too stale.

4th of July cookies

I hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend. Cookouts, parades, sparklers, picnics, and fireworks.

But please don't forget all of the brave and honorable American's throughout our nation's history, who have given so much for democracy and freedom.
