You know this guy, right? Its Harry Potter. Now I'd like to introduce you to Harry's number one fan.
My daughter Isabelle. She has read all the Harry Potter books and LOVES them. In fact, they are all precariously held together with tape at this point.
Isabelle is a voracious reader and loves her Kindle, but says there is nothing like the smell of real books (and I agree). The Potter books went through two of her older brothers so they have been well loved indeed. Here she is with Ya Ya getting in on the reading action.
As you can imagine, she has been counting the days till the newest movie comes out - and it is this weekend. I made her a batch of Harry cookies for her birthday in March, but we decided a a new assortment was in order for this most joyous occasion.
We have the cute little owl Hedwig. So cute in fact, that I made several.
I have had several people ask me how I draw freehand on a cookie - no Kopycake. Well, I sketch it on paper several times to get a feel for what I want. I always start with a center feature - for the my Cheshire cat cookie from the Alice in Wonderland tea, it was the smile I started with. It helps to be able to draw, but I must say, that there is a huge difference between drawing with a pencil and drawing with an icing tip.
This is the beloved Dumbledore.
I guess the best advice I have is to just plunge in there and do it. Practice helps a lot, too. Do some work on the back side of a vanilla wafer or on wax paper. And I have made PLENTY of really awful looking cookies. Its just that I furtively eat them before anyone sees. Kind of like a spy eating the secret message before the enemy gets it. I probably gained ten pounds trying to improve my piping skills. I have also found that men, children, and dogs are more than happy to dispose of any "bad cookie" evidence.
And now for the evil Lord Voldemort.
Wouldn't want to meet this guy in a dark alley. As a side note, this is exactly what I look like in the morning before I've had my coffee. You wouldn't want to meet me in a dark alley either if you were carrying a cup of Starbucks.
And here we have the gang posing all together before being devored by anxious kids and husband.
Izzie has been eyeing Dumbledore all afternoon - there was a thick layer of icing for his beard and it was calling her name.
Mmmmmm, he IS a real sweet guy! I bet Lord Voldemort isn't all bad either...
