The three steps of sugar cookie decorating video tutorial

I am a visual learner.  For those of you who are also visual (and toying with the idea of making cookies decorated with royal icing), I have a brief video tutorial that shows me outlining, flooding, and adding details to some little bunny cookies.

There is no editing here, just me unclogging tips, popping air bubbles, and getting icing on my fingers.  The real deal friends.

As well as being visual, I am also going to be a complainer.

Can I vent?

One pan full of burned cookies, designs that are turning out lame, and I am still fuming over the USPS losing (stealing) two boxes of cookies - one for my son in D.C. and one for my son stationed over seas in the military.  The third box which was sent to my mom/little nieces was emptied of half of it's contents and the remaining things were covered in grease.
And the cost of stamps keeps going up???

Oh, and have I told you about the BAD CAT?

The one that found a tray of cookies left in the kitchen five minutes unattended.  The BAD CAT that opened two layers of cling wrap and
LICKED AND BIT every cookie.
Five hours of work - gone in five minutes.

The BAD CAT.  His name is YaYa AKA Sugar Lips.

There.  I got it all off my chest and I feel better.

Sort of.

  8. A great post and made me smile which is always a good thing. You are nothing short of an artist with your canvas being a cookie. If the world would only recognize such a gift you possess.

  11. I was curious if you ever considered changing the page layout of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so
people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?

Feel free to surf to my web page - more info

  15. OMG that is a bad cat indeed! Reminds me of last summer. THREE batches of perfectly fried zucchini and the dog tipped the plate resting on the counter over and ate it all.

And THAT would be just 1/8 of the work that you put into your cookies! :(

  19. Oh, I love those sweet cookies! I can tell you that outlining would be my least favorite step, but then again, I also can tell you that my cookies have never looked that amazing in all of my life. They are gorgeous! And also, your kitty may be bad, but he's extremely cute, which probably has saved him more than once. :-)

  21. Wow Lisa, these cookies are just amazing. These are little pieces of art. You are so talented and that kitty is just too cute. my sister-in-law loves to bake cookies so I am going to share this blog with her. I am glad that you visited me. I will now be following you. I hope that you can follow back.

  22. Such cute bunny cookies. Much better than mine! That's why we have a short dog -- food on counters or tables is safe!

  23. In defense of "Bad Cat", it was necessary to lick and bite each cookie to make sure they were just perfect, before you gave them to someone. Think of him as quality control.
My daughter is here this week and she is a cake decorator. We are going to follow your video and hopefully turn out some decent cookies. I have tried decorated sugar cookies so many times and they always look like a child's finger painting project.
    Thanks for the video.
    Blessings, Ginger

  24. Lisa, beautiful cookies. Apparently, you have much more patience than I do. That little bugger, Bad Cat, looks like he has learned his lesson, or is that just what he wants you to think??!!..Happy Weekend..Judy

  25. This has NOT been a good week for you, has it? My goodness! That's a lot of bad stuff in a very short period of time!!! I hope the coming week is protected by the luck o' the Irish and makes up for all of this! I would be FUMING about the USPS, too!!!!!!! That is some nerve! And to take them from a military person overseas...that's just unforgivable!!! I think a letter to the Postmaster General is in order for that one!!! I am going to look at your video when I have a little time without people in the background shouting over these dumb basketball games. I have never been able to put icing on cookies, but I'd like to learn. I have some really cool cookie cutters that I'd like to put to good use! It just seems to me that one would have to have a very steady hand to get anything to look right. Ole Uncle Arthur (arthritis) may not give me that leeway! :-) Thanks so much for stopping by my place earlier today, and have a better week!

  28. Beautiful cookies Lisa and thanks for the video - I am a visual person and loved it. I love your story about your cat even though I can identify with the frustration. My cat would do the same thing because he loves sweet stuff. Cute kittie even if he was a bad kitty this time.
